From still life to landscape, Raka Bose Saha's paintings explode in capturing light through an unusual color palette. Colors juxtaposed to create a vibrant effect flood the surfaces of her canvases, creating strong, unique patterns out of cognitive still lifes and landscapes. Her landscapes have a powerful, billowy quality, giving expressive force to the flow of hills, valleys, rocks and trees while her still life paintings exude a Fauvist sensibility. Born in Calcutta, India, Saha has lived in St. Louis, Atlanta, and now resides in suburban Washington, DC. She holds degrees from the University of Michigan and the University of Calcutta and has traveled extensively abroad. Her paintings are in private and corporate collections throughout the United States and have received awards in several national juried shows. Her work has been published in the book, Best of Watercolor: Painting Color by Rockport Publishers of Massachusetts, 1998 and in the St. Louis Business Journal. |
