Lida Matheson Stifel captures intimate scenes onto canvas as personal reflections of places she has experienced. A perpetual realist, her paintings are generated by her response to what she observes in nature and are conceived with a strong emphasis on light and shadow with a sense of spontaneity. Stifel received her degree from Ohio Wesleyan University and has studied locally with William Christenberry at the Corcoran School of Art. Her work is in numerous distinguished public and private collections nationally. The recipient of several awards, she has been exhibiting her work at Foxhall Gallery since 1995.

Philip Lawson Johnston's artistry is hand-engraving of glass since 1971. He has worked in London at various studios in Earl's Court, Belgravia and Chelsea. Based in Oxford, England since 1988, he is an associate fellow of the Guild of Glass Engravers. His subject matter ranges widely: heraldry, inscriptions, buildings, portraiture, botanicals, wildlife scenes and biblical subjects. Johnston also creates commissioned works for corporate and private clients. He states: My intention is to create glass designs that not only are pleasing to the eye...but also reflect in some way the care and attention to detail of the Creator that we observe in the world around us. Foxhall Gallery is pleased to introduce Johnston's first exhibition in the nation's capital.
