artists are the center and the subject

This exhibit explores the influences of Western spiritual art, contemporary abstract and narrative art. Sandra Bowden's most recent works are actual books that have been screwed open and finished to display a variety of surfaces which include the familiar raised Hebrew and Greek texts or graphic elements carefully incised into the luminescent painted books. Ed Knipper's interest is in the human form, using the figure in narrative paintings confronting the viewer with strong biblical themes through a contemporary painting language. Karen Swenholt's sculptures tell stories; within each story is a narrative that is contained within the sculpture itself. All three artists have exhibited widely, received numerous awards, taught in various educational fields, and have had their work placed in private, corporate and museum collections.
