Bryn Craig´s oils vibrate with rich, luminous color; brush stroke and bold composition combine to capture movement, space and feeling through the use of light. Simply put, Bryn Craig is a painter of places: a row of buildings on a city street, neon signs, intriguing landscapes, houses with porches. Bryn states:
"I´m more concerned with light and shadow but mostly with the mood. I try to get the poetry out of a place rather than aim toward photo-realism..."With a unique eye and skilled hand, Craig gets to the heart of the matter by painting canvases that capture a memory, the emotion and essence of place. Painterly brush stroke and unusual perspective give Craig´s paintings a startling and fresh glow, almost an inner light. The artist´s canvases are pensive and arresting, capturing a lifetime of emotional involvement with light and space.
Born in Pennsylvania in 1931, Craig developed a passion for painting from his earliest years. He studied at the Philadelphia Museum College of Art and spent summers at the Art Students League in New York. He has shown in exhibitions at the Philadelphia Museum as well as the Corcoran Gallery in Washington DC and has received numerous awards, featured in American Artist magazine.
Foxhall Gallery has represented artist Bryn Craig for 20 years.
