Foxhall Gallery is pleased to introduce the vibrant, joy-filled paintings by Dorsey McHugh to Washington, DC. Currently residing in Nashville, Dorsey reflects her artistic philosophy in her favorite quotation: "Look to the light and the shadows will fall behind." Her works carry such titles as Rest Your Heart, Sun for Everyone and Always Welcome. When Dorsey creates a painting, she unites technique, color selection and subject matter to create images that remind us to focus on the warmer side of life. Her work has been shown at the Huntsville, Alabama Museum of Art and several galleries in the south.
Claudia Hartley's paintings can be described in a word - enthusiastic! In much the same fashion as her Fauve predecessors, Claudia has followed in the footsteps of Matisse, Derain and Vlaminck with her vivid color and bold brush strokes. She received her Bachelor of Fine Art degree from the U of Georgia after which she opened her own art school in Atlanta. She now resides in Arizona and is represented in galleries south and west.
Christel Minotti's paintings explore the themes of relationships of colors and shapes. The images are simple in order to clarify the shapes and render the colors more powerfully. Her childhood was spent in Finland where basic modern forms were admired and blended with the nature-centered mysticism of the past. These influences have become intuitively central to her work. She states, "Currently I am exploring the still-life and the endless challenges of object relations; how the dynamics change with the arrangement...flowers and their organic shapes are balanced with geometrics." Her work has been exhibited in the South at the Gwinnett Fine Arts Center, Georgia, the Huntsville Museum of Art, Alabama, the National Invitational at Brenau College at Gainsville, Georgia among others. Her awards include 2nd Place, National Invitational, Brenau College and 1st Place, Cobb Council of Art, Marietta, GA with Alan Avery, Judge.
