Dede Caughman likes to paint the beauty in every day things whether a simple
object, a country field or a child on the beach. Caughman states: "I see beauty in light and how it hits objects,
landscapes or people. The play of light on an object is magical: it intensifies, creates shadows, reveals shape and
highlights the relationships of objects."
Caughman studied at Duke University, the University of North Carolina at
Greensboro, the Penland School of Arts and Crafts, and at the Corcoran Museum. Dede Caughman lives in Washington, D.C.
and her paintings can be found in many private collections across the Unites States.
