Dean Larson
In the long tradition of realistic painting, Dean Larson's still life, portrait and landscape paintings reflect the dignity and beauty of the old masters. Using contemporary compositions, he skillfully combines classical realism with a painterly movement of brush. Emerging as a nationally recognized artist with his book, Studying with the Masters, Larson translates light and shadow to define space and composition, using the Maroger medium.

Larson's awards include the John and Anna Lee Stacey Competition (twice won) and the American Artist National Competition, New York. He has shown at Foxhall Gallery for over 10 years and is in numerous public and private collections.

JACQUES MAROGER (1884-1962): oil paintings and drawings

"Remembrance of the Sea"
oil on canvas   25" x 32"

Foxhall Gallery exclusively represents the estate of the master artist, Jacques Maroger, most well known for his "Maroger medium" which he developed in France in 1929. In 1937 he received France's prestigious Legion of Honor medal for his work while chief conservator of the Louvre. Reginald Marsh, Fairfield Porter and Raoul Dufy were collaborators in discovering the secrets of the Old Masters' paint luminosity and techniques.

As professor at the Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore, Maroger taught and painted for over 20 years. Foxhall's collection of his work includes life drawings from the early years as well as still life and landscape paintings from his later years.
