Lee Boynton is a painter of light: warm,
sensuous colors impregnate his compositions. His complex fascination with the sea and his interest in preserving a portrayal
of the life of watermen and the honesty of their world is reflected in his fluid and powerful renderings of the moods of an
artist in love with the sea. Boynton paints scenes from the seacoast of Maine and the Chesapeake Bay in a way to
celebrate man's joy in honest work and his connection with nature. His paintings reveal an intimate knowledge of his
subjects; indeed, he often spends a day with fishermen on their boats.
Boynton received his BFA from Syracuse University. His works, which may be found in numerous private and
corporate collections, have been shown at the Salmagundi Club, New York, and the Baltimore Watercolor Society.
He recently completed a large mural for "Annapolis 300" on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of Maryland's
Capital. In addition to being included in two books on impressionistic painting techniques, he is currently
writing a book on applying those techniques.
