Ronni Jolles is in love with paper as a
medium. The artist sees paper not as a mere surface but a thing of beauty
in itself. She meticulously manipulates paper with tears, bends and
floods, color on color, layer upon layer to create fluid line and texture.
Her work is not mere paper collage; her artwork vibrates with wondrous
depth and nuance of color and shape. The artist draws inspiration from
what she sees and knows. Each artwork is carefully layered and clued on
canvas and sometimes touched with chalk pastel to accent the textures
already created by the work itself. Jolles often begins with an image in
mind, but as the artwork develops the textures of the materials themselves
guide her hand. Each piece is unique with a distinctive visual effect and
sculptural light and shadow.
The artist was recently chosen to
exhibit in the prestigious 2010
Smithsonian Annual Spring Exhibition in Washington, D.C. Ronni Jolles'
artworks are included in numerous private collections throughout the U.S.
The artist studied at the Corcoran School of Art, Boston Museum of Fine
Arts and Cornel University.
