A well-known international artist from New
York, Sandra Bowden is a painter and printmaker. Her works are textural, rich in detail, complex meditations on time.
Drawing from the richness of the Judeo-Christian tradition, her imagery is a provocative example of art centered both
figuratively and literally in the mystery of biblical revelation. Borrowing from archaeology, icons, music and art
historical references, her works evoke the feeling of a medieval manuscript or illumination in contemporary abstract form.
Bowden is the recipient of numerous awards for her contemporary religious imagery.
Her work is in the permanent collection of the Vatican Museum of Contemporary Religious Art, Rome, and in the Haifa
Museum of Art in Israel. Corporate collections include Holiday Inns of America and the General Electric Corporation.
She has exhibited throughout the United States and abroad and most recently at Foxhall Gallery in October, 1997.
